India Reduced Oil Imports from Russia by 40% in January 2026

Supply volumes have dropped to their lowest level since June 2022, amounting to 859,000 barrels per day (3.68 million tons), according to a review by the international pricing agency Argus, which RBC has obtained.

Part of the decline in supplies to India is due to increasing pressure from the United States. New Delhi is looking to reduce its oil imports from Russia to secure a trade agreement with Washington. Simultaneously, India is diversifying its raw material purchases and has resumed imports of Venezuelan oil after a prolonged hiatus.

How Russian oil exports to India are adapting to threats from the U.S. is discussed in a RBC article.
