Urals Oil Surpasses ESPO Price in April: Causes and Consequences

The export price of Russian Urals crude oil at Russian ports in April 2026 significantly exceeded the price of ESPO crude oil, according to data from Argus, the Price Index Center (PIC), and the consulting company NEFT Research. The PIC reported that during the week from April 13 to April 19, Urals traded at $95.4/barrel on an FOB Primorsk basis (Leningrad region) and $94.4/barrel on an FOB Novorossiysk basis, while ESPO was priced at $89.6/barrel on an FOB Kozmino basis (Primorsky Krai). This indicates that Urals was more expensive by $4.8 to $5.8/barrel.
According to NEFT Research, the average price of Urals from April 13 to April 17 was $91.4/barrel in Novorossiysk and $93.2/barrel in Primorsk, while ESPO crude oil was priced at $91.1/barrel. The week prior, Urals had been higher by $12 to $14/barrel, although according to the PIC, it was up by $15 to $16/barrel.
